What do you love the most about the Automotive Technology Program at SIU?
I would have to say the instructors and the Alumni are what I love most about the Automotive Technology Program at SIU. It's wonderful to see so many people with such a passion for the industry and a drive to share that with others. The program would not be what it is today without the influence and contributions of our Alumni and the dedication of the instructors and faculty.
How has the Automotive Technology Program prepared you for what you do?
The Automotive Technology Program has prepared me for my current role by providing me with the skills I need to continuously learn new things. The automotive industry is ever changing and the ability to embrace and understand emerging technology is a vital tool.
Give us a snap shot of what you do everyday.
I am a Technical Support Manager with Cummins Inc. and support large trucking fleets in my territory, which covers Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona. I help dealers and fleets correctly spec trucks for optimum fuel economy and performance. I keep them informed of changes with our technology. I also conduct failure analysis when an engine component fails, provide technical assistance when troubleshooting becomes difficult, assist in determining warranty coverage, and process data to understand and address emerging issues.
Any advice for current and future students?
You will get out of the program what you give to it. Be involved and enjoy your time at SIU!
