What do you love the most about the Automotive Technology Program at SIU?

What I loved most about the SIU Automotive Technology program is that it was, and still is, a very well rounded program that helps you prepare for an automotive specific career.  The SIU Automotive Technology program’s reputation and relationships with automotive manufacturers helps you get placed in the industry.

How has the Automotive Technology Program prepared you for what you do?

The automotive courses I took, specifically advanced engine performance, helped me develop critical thinking skills when it comes to diagnosis of a vehicle

Give us a snap shot of what you do everyday.

As a Field Service Engineer with Ford Motor Company our core responsibility is to troubleshoot difficult to diagnose vehicles to ultimately prevent vehicle repurchase.  We oversee a group of dealerships in our assigned territory and work directly with technicians to assist with the resolution of a vehicle concern.  Other core responsibilities include Better Business Bureau and legal vehicle inspections, dealership service department consulting, facilitate Ford technician training, and service department tool and equipment sales.

Any advice for current and future students?

My advice to current students would be to take full advantage of the internship programs available to you.  The Service Engineer position at the Ford Technical Hotline with Advantage Technical Resourcing is a terrific entry level position that will prepare you for a career with Ford Motor Company.
